neighborhood with abundant greenspace, who was able to receive homebuyer’s education and closing-cost funds towards the purchase of her Belair-Edison home.
Help local businesses on the Main Street like the Erdman Animal Hospital a staple in the neighborhood for over 60 years that received façade improvements and summer youth interns. And our burgeoning entrepreneur pop-up retail opportunities.
Bring more art and vibrancy to the neighborhood! Local artists like Paige Orphin and residents work together to change the aesthetic of our community, creating a visually stimulating and welcoming environment.

Who is BENI?
As an organization with nearly 30 years of experience supporting ongoing neighborhood revitalization and stabilization in the Northeast Baltimore community of Belair-Edison, BENI’s mission is to foster an environment where residents and business owners feel confident to invest their time, energy, and money. Our core programs include Housing Counseling, Small Business Development, Community Organizing as well as Marketing and Outreach.
Our programs ensure economic inclusiveness for all clients regardless of age or ethnicity and help create opportunities to bridge the racial equity divide for residents in the mostly low-to-moderate income community. Since 2000, we’ve been able to facilitate:
- Nearly 100 home improvement loans worth over $4.23 million.
- Become a neighborhood of choice, attracting new buyers with economic, racial, and professional diversity.
- Coordinate over 90 resident-led block beautification projects valued at $125,000 in improvements.
- Cultivate 200 large and small commercial building improvement projects worth more than $5.5 million.
- Educate over 1,000 families each year on pre and post-purchase housing education.
