FINE Women Academy Team Takes Top Honors

On March 26, 2016, a group of women from the FINE Women Scholar’s Academy embarked on a seven week journey to challenge themselves to do what some would call the unthinkable. The audacious group met at Lake Montebello and committed to literally chasing their dreams, by training for the annual Morgan State University (MSU) 5k Run/Walk.

After weeks of preparation, all nineteen women would complete their journey by competing in the MSU 2nd Annual 5k Run/Walk on May 7, 2016. At the completion of the race, The FINE Women Academy Team took home two top honors including 2nd fastest runner overall for Coach Ed Fisher and 2nd largest team of participants!

The ladies challenged themselves, overcoming pain and injuries, and enduring various weather extremes while remaining optimistically committed to achieving their goals.

This was done largely by taking advantage of free resources such as the road course around Lake Montebello, track and gym facilities at Morgan State University, the trails along Herring Run Park, as well as aerobic and dance classes in the community, staying true to the FINE Women creed of empowerment, financial wellness, sisterhood, and healthy living!

The women have all agreed to continue their training sessions, even though they have completed the race, and will actively seek future 5k opportunities they can compete in as a team.

The FINE Women Academy is a free financial education and well-being certificate program. Academy participants have direct access to tools, knowledge and resources necessary to establish habits that will lead to financial health and wellness. For more information, call 410-914-4241.
